Comparative Witness: Christian Mission and Islamic Da‘wah

Christian evangelism among Muslims presents some special challenges, both because of what we share in common and the unique elements in our messages. Since there is mutual recrimination by both Muslims and Christians of the other's missionary activities, the following will be presented in a comparative format. First, we will demonstrate how witness through da‘wah and mission are enjoined in the Qur'an and Bible respectively. Next, we will discuss the understanding and practice of the witness of each faith community worldwide, before examining tensions and criticism that have arisen between them—some justified—and resultant persecution. Finally, we will suggest guidelines for mutually responsible and respectful witness.
